The coastal areas of Peru are home to some of this country’s most dramatic landscapes. In a setting more suited to the Sahara, around 5 kilometers inland from Ica you’ll find the oasis of Huacachina, where underground waters spring in a green lagoon, supposedly with healing properties. Certainly, its origins attested in local legends contribute to its exotic glamour alongside Peruvians and foreigners alike.
But the surroundings of the oasis are its best-known asset: big rolling dunes of golden, always moving, sand. To experience them, Sandboarding Perú offers you the so-called sand-snow school, where you’ll be able to sandboard and sand ski under the guidance of a local instructor, before riding a dune buggy for around 2 hours, reaching the top of the highest dunes and looking out to the landscapes below.
