Enjoy the Aurora Borealis on a snowmobile in Kiruna Sweden

Jean Pierre Contasti

Auroras are one of the world’s most impressive phenomena, consisting of natural light displays over the sky in high-latitude regions. Moreover, the so-called Northern Lights, visible most of the year in places above the Arctic Circle, are a sight that should be in everyone’s bucket list. Kiruna, home to around 17,000 inhabitants, is the northernmost town in all of Sweden, and the starting point of many activities that allow you to enjoy Lapland at its finest.

Kiruna Guidetur is a local company that offers a different experience: to gaze at the aurora while riding a snowmobile around the Torne River valley. After traversing a few kilometers and turning off the engines, the total silence becomes theatrical as the sky lights up in a colorful explosion while your guide tells you the stories, myths, and legends about these magnificent wonders. Later, you’ll warm up in a cabin where Sami delicacies will be served.
